Why is my roof green? Moss and algae thrive on damp, shaded slopes, especially north-facing roofs and those under trees. In our wet coastal weather, growth can spread year after year, holding water on the tiles and blocking gutters.
How we clean. Most roofs need a combination of these:
- Moss removal: Scraping and brushing to take off the bulk by hand.
- Controlled pressure cleaning: Used only on sound tiles that can take it.
- Soft washing: Low pressure with a cleaning solution, for delicate or older tiles.
- Biocide treatment: Kills remaining growth and helps slow its return.
The right method matters. Too much pressure can wear tiles, lift pointing and force water underneath. We assess your roof first, and won't pressure wash where it isn't suitable.
What it costs. Prices depend on roof size, access and the amount of growth. See our roof cleaning cost guide.
Process. Send photos or book a visit · Get your fixed written price · We clean and clear the moss from your gutters · You get before and after photos.
Doing the walls too? Combine it with render soft washing. If your conservatory roof has reached the end of its life, see replacement options.
What to expect. Moss can eventually come back, especially on shaded slopes. We'll tell you what to expect for your roof, and how treatment can slow it down.
